Overview

Welcome to the Toronto Bioinformatics Hackathon 2025, hosted at the University of Toronto's Donnelly Centre! This event is designed for early-career scientists to create interdisciplinary projects in bioinformatics and computational biology. It's a great opportunity to collaborate on innovative solutions with commercialization potential.

Requirements

To participate, you must apply through hackbio.ca and be verified as a hacker. All team members need to sign up on Devpost. Your submission must be in by 1:00 PM EST on September 21st and should include a project abstract or video demo, a link to your code (like a GitHub repo), and a list of tools and databases used. The hackathon will feature an in-person, science-fair style judging round with presentations lasting less than 5 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of Q&A. Your team must be present throughout the judging session.

Prizes

There are 4 non-cash prizes available. The First Place winner will receive $1,500 split among team members. Second Place will get $500 split among team members. The CCBR Innovation Award, focused on innovation and commercialization, also comes with $1,500 split among team members. Additionally, the MVP Award/Collaborative Champion will recognize an individual who excelled at teaching and tutoring during the event, with a $200 prize for that person.
