Tech Lurker

TechLurker is an innovative app designed to keep you informed about the latest news in the tech industry. Using a web crawler, TechLurker gathers news from various tech sites and presents it in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner. Users can choose from built-in starting points or input their favorite sites to see what interesting information gets returned to them. Developed by a team of dedicated individuals, including Han Bao, Philip Werner, Brian Wheeler, and Max Wolff, TechLurker is built with several key technologies, such as the Pyramid Framework, Cookiecutter-PyPackage, Start Bootstrap, Scrapy, Plotly, and NLTK. To set up and install TechLurker, users need to download the NLTK data file and have a Plotly account. The app requires a Postgress database, and users need to export an environment variable pointing to the location of their data configuration. Once the package is installed and the database is created, the application can be served using thepserve
command. TechLurker also offers a blog featuring articles on various topics, including geek culture, gaming, and independent thought. Recent articles include "Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary: New Merch & Remake Hopes," "5 Curious Facts About Mario Games Most Fans Don't Know," and "The Righteous Independent." Additionally, TechLurker provides a feature to install the site as a web app on the home screen, although this feature may not be available in some browsers. For questions, feedback, or cool ideas, users can reach out to TechLurker through their contact page. The app also offers a subscription service for quick updates, smart finds, and clean inbox vibes.
