ShelfKeepr: Automating the Hunt for Rare and Out-of-Print Books

Overview

ShelfKeepr is a digital service designed to help book collectors, particularly those hunting for rare, out-of-print, or specific editions, by automating the search process across major online marketplaces. Instead of manually refreshing sites like eBay and Etsy, users input their desired books, and ShelfKeepr continuously monitors listings until a match is found within the user's specified price and condition parameters.

Benefits

ShelfKeepr offers several key advantages for book collectors. The service automates the tedious task of checking multiple websites, allowing users to set a maximum price and preferred condition for their desired books. Once a book is added, the system scans eBay and Etsy on a schedule determined by the rarity of the book. Rarer books are checked more frequently to ensure they are not missed. When a match is found, the user receives a single email containing a direct link to the listing. This email includes details such as the price, condition, and marketplace source. If a cheaper edition appears later, the user is notified again. The service also allows users to organize their existing collection into digital shelves, grouping books by series, author, or custom categories. The system tracks what is owned versus what is still being hunted. Users can also track curated lists created by the community or the platform. The system automatically checks these lists, skips books the user already owns, and queues the missing ones for search. The platform features a Most Hunted board showing what the community is currently searching for, allowing users to see trends and avoid specific printings. It also highlights Steals of the Month, showcasing significant savings found by the community. The Hunter tier includes a referral program where every friend who subscribes earns the user one month of Hunter access. Users can hold up to six months of rewards at a time. While the catalogue is extensive, it is not infinite. Users can contribute missing books by verifying ISBNs or title/author data, ensuring the tool remains effective for niche collections.

Use Cases

ShelfKeepr is particularly useful for Warhammer 40k Collectors who frequently use the service to hunt for out-of-print Horus Heresy novels and other Black Library titles that vanish quickly from the internet. It is ideal for First Edition Hunters tracking down specific printings, signed copies, or rare editions of classics like The Hobbit or The Silmarillion. The service helps Series Completionists finish incomplete series by tracking every missing volume automatically. It also allows Budget Shoppers to set strict price caps to ensure they only receive alerts for deals that fit their budget. By removing the need to manually check marketplaces, ShelfKeepr allows collectors to focus on reading and organizing their libraries while the service handles the tedious work of finding the perfect copy.

Pricing

ShelfKeepr offers two tiers. The Watcher tier is free and requires no credit card. This tier is suitable for common to uncommon books. Very Rare books are checked every hour.
