Google DeepMind has introduced Veo 2, a new AI tool for making high-quality, realistic videos. This tool is much better than the one before it, with improved abilities and performance.

Veo 2 can create videos in up to 4K resolution, which is four times better than OpenAI''s Sora. Right now, the output is limited to 720p in the VideoFX tool, but the model can make videos in higher resolutions. Veo 2 has greatly reduced issues like extra fingers or unnatural movements. This results in more lifelike human expressions and gestures in the videos. Google DeepMind is taking steps to ensure the responsible use of Veo 2. This includes adding invisible SynthID watermarks to identify AI-generated content. These watermarks help prevent misuse, misinformation, and political disinformation. However, the full capabilities of Veo 2 are not yet available to the public, and it is currently accessible only through Google''s experimental video creation tool, VideoFX.

Veo 2 performs better than competitors like OpenAI''s Sora in several areas, including resolution, duration, and realism in physics and motion simulation. In user preference tests, Veo 2 was preferred over Sora Turbo by 59% of human raters, showing its superior performance.

While Veo 2 is a big step forward in AI video generation, it still faces challenges. These include maintaining long-term coherence and character consistency in longer videos. Also, access to the full capabilities of Veo 2 is currently limited to a waitlist.

Google DeepMind plans to integrate Veo 2 into other products and platforms. This includes potential integration with YouTube Shorts soon and availability on the Vertex AI developer platform. The rollout is expected to expand gradually, with more features and accessibility being added over time.
