AIVA

AIVA is a new company that uses smart computer programs to make classical music. Two brothers, Pierre and Vincent Barreau, started AIVA. AIVA is short for Artificial Intelligence Virtual Artist. The company is part of a special program that helps new and creative companies grow. In the next few months, AIVA will improve its plans, decide how to grow, and enter a market that does not always welcome new digital ideas. Pierre studies at University College London, and Vincent is an engineer from Telecom Saint-Etienne. They started AIVA from nothing. The smart computer program in AIVA makes unique classical music by learning from famous composers like Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach. AIVA''s smart program looks at these songs and can finish unfinished pieces or make new ones. The project is still in an early stage and needs more work. The brothers work with professional musicians to make sure the music is good before it is recorded. They want musicians to help with all parts of making AIVA''s music, not to replace them. AIVA''s first songs are on their website, www.aiva.ai. There are 23 pieces, including piano songs and big orchestra fantasies. A first CD album, called Genesis, will come out soon. In 2017, the brothers want to move to the next stage of the project and make music for movies and video games. They hope to have their own concerts and even finish a part of Schubert''s Symphony No. 8. The big goal is for AIVA to be known as a great composer, just like Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, and bring new life to the music world.
